Hello there!
My name is Heather Steckler! I’m an interdisciplinary artist originally from New Jersey. My work utilizes printmaking, collage, papermaking, and book arts to construct personal archives. Through these archives, I seek to understand the way we collect and accumulate memories through our physical belongings and surroundings and how we can preserve them.
I received my BFA in Painting and Drawing from the Tyler School of Art and Architecture at Temple University in 2019. Since graduating, I supported the Philadelphia print community by serving as a board member at The Soapbox Community Printshop and Zine Library and as both a Fob holder and an events coordinator at Second State Press. I have also spent time living in abroad in Japan— studying Japanese language in Tokyo and most recently, completing a residency at Studio Kura in Itoshima, Japan.
I currently live in Iowa City where I am a first-year MFA Candidate in Printmaking at the University of Iowa‘s School of Art and Art History and a Graduate Certificate student at the University of Iowa Center for the Book.
