Heather Steckler is an interdisciplinary artist currently based in Iowa City, IA.

Left in the Sun, 2023, Itoshima, Japan, is a site-specific exhibition based on my month spent in the rural, seaside town of Itoshima. Between monsoon rains and harsh sunny days, I collected trash that had washed ashore on the beautiful beaches. As a guest in this town, I hoped to leave the place better than I found it, even if only through removing other humans' trash on its shores.

The culminating exhibition showcased various cyanotype collages, photo books, and an index of the collected objects.
