About
Heather Steckler is an interdisciplinary artist from New Jersey. Her multimedia collage practice utilizes print, papermaking, and textiles to explore the way we preserve memories through the images and objects we hold dear to us.
Heather received a BFA in Painting and Drawing from the Tyler School of Art at Temple University.
An active member of her print community, she has served as a board member at the Soapbox Community Printshop and Zine Library, as both a Fob Holder and Events Coordinator at Second State Press, and as the President of the Iowa Print Group. She is passionate about community studio spaces & sharing her love of print media and papermaking with students of all skill levels through community workshops. Heather has also spent time living abroad in Japan, most recently completing a residency at Studio Kura in Itoshima, Japan.
Her work has been exhibited at Public Space One (IA), Quad City Arts (IL), The Morgan Conservatory (OH), The Art Center at Highland Park (IL), and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (PA), among others. She has also presented her research and demonstrations at conferences, including SGCI, MAPC and North American Hand Papermakers.
Heather is currently based in Iowa City, where she is an instructor and MFA candidate in Printmaking at the University of Iowa and a Graduate Certificate student at the UI Center for the Book.
